Choosing an advisor
Dental Broker Selection: Choosing the Best Dental Practice Brokerage
The right advisor should bring dental-specific experience, a sound process, clear communication, and incentives that align with your goals. A polished presentation alone is not enough.
Look for relevant dental experience
Ask how the advisor evaluates practices, protects confidentiality, manages diligence, coordinates professionals, and handles difficult negotiations. Experience with transactions similar to yours matters more than a broad claim of industry expertise.
Understand representation and compensation
Know exactly who the brokerage represents, how it is paid, and whether it receives referral or lender compensation. Buyers and sellers should understand where duties and incentives sit before sharing sensitive information.
Ask how the practice will be positioned and protected
A seller should understand how buyers are identified, screened, and informed; how confidentiality is maintained; what marketing materials are prepared; and how inquiries, tours, offers, and diligence are managed.
Evaluate the working relationship
Responsiveness, candor, preparation, and the ability to explain tradeoffs are essential. Ask who will do the day-to-day work, what communication to expect, and how the advisor responds when a deal should slow down - or stop.
